The Gjirokaster police have started an operation this Tuesday outside
the Lazarat village, the most problematic area where the police have
been unable to intervene for years.
Police say that at six o’clock this morning they started the operation for blocking the fertilizer, water trucks and employees who enter the village to work in the cannabis fields.
Five trucks have been seized, and 58 citizens have not been allowed to enter Lazarat. They were taken to the Gjirokaster police before entering the village. The police officers of the Gjirokaster have also received help by the Traffic Police officers.
A 26-year-old woman was wounded last night in Berat, after some shooting that took place in Lazarat. Police say that the girl lives in the “Zinxhir” neighborhood and she was wounded on her arm.
According to the police, the Lazarat residents shoot time after time in the air to protect the cannabis parcels. They have placed armed people in the mountains to control every movement in the village.
A few days ago the Italian operative air command “Guardia di Finanza” declared that there are at least 500 parcels of cannabis in Lazarat.
According to them, there are 319 hectares of cannabis, which means that more than 1000 tons of marijuana are produced each year, with a market value of more than four billion years. For the realization of ths difficult air investigation the Italian experts worked for more than eight weeks in a very difficult area. The results were achieved thanks to sophisticated equipments realized by the Napoli University. The air monitoring of the Albanian territory is based on an agreement signed in Tirana on June 19th 2012 between the Italian and Albanian police directories.
