There were initial rumors for an arrest of the Self-Determination Movement leader, Albin Kurti, which was denied by representatives of the SDM and Kosovo Police.
After 15:00, police used tear gas against the protesters, after warning them to leave the border checkpoints in order to respect the free movement agreement.
The SDM leader Albin Kurti reacted by asking the police to not use violence, since the protest is peaceful.
“The road is not blocked by the protesters, but by police”, Kurti declared.
The protest of the Self-Determination Movement started this Sunday at 13:00, for not allowing Serbian trucks entering Kosovo, since Serbia doesn’t allow Kosovo goods in their territory. Albin Kurti declared that they implemented the reciprocity agreements by not allowing the Serbian goods in Kosovo, which could be considered a victory.
“Our only problem is Serbia, the country that was self-declared an enemy of Kosovo. We will use our own bodies to block the Serbian trucks from entering Kosovo”, Kurti declared in front of the supporters.
According to him, this is a peaceful protest and none of the protesters have any dangerous objects with them. The protesters don’t even hold slogans, but only national flags.
Meanwhile, the Kosovo Customs web page was blocked by hackers, who have written “Self-Determination” on the front page, but the Self Determination Movement kept distance from this action.
Two buses with supporters from Albania traveled to the Morina checkpoint, but they were blocked in the Kosovo-Albania border. According to the Kosovo border authorities, the cause was a computer defect, while the Morina Police did not allow the media to film. These protesters are currently in neutral territory and are not participating in the Serbia-Kosovo border checkpoint protest.
The Self-Determination Movement declared that the police has blocked them for not participating, giving the technical defect as an excuse.
“The Police attacked the Albanian supporters when they tried to cross the border on feet”, the press release declared.
