Police: Illegal protest

16/11/2013 00:00

While the five-day protest against the chemical weapons was immediately
closed after Prime Minister’s Rama declaration, the Tirana Police has
filed a report at the Prosecution for illegal meetings.

The police thinks that protest organizers and civil society members have violated the law for meetings, which provides that they need to ask a permit before.

However, the protest which was spread in several cities did not mark any incident or confrontation.

The Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri, explained the public opinion that there will be no criminal report against the protesters.

Tahiri’s reaction comes after the announcement made by the Tirana Police earlier the day.
He added that during these days, the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, has called him constantly to make sure that the police wasn’t there with a high presence.

“I think that we were able to show the civilized face of the State Police, as a decent partner of the Albanian citizens. We earned security through peace and not through violence”, Tahiri declared.
