Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The two recent murders that took place in the Albanian capital and left
two women dead, not only shocked the public opinion, but caused the
General Chief of State Police, Hysni Burgaj, to make some changes among
the Police directors in the city.
Burgaj argued that these movements were necessary, after the analysis report about the criminality in Albania. The first measures were taken after the two murders that happened Wednesday within three hours.
The Chief of Tirana Police, Sajmir Muca, has been transferred to the Police Academy and was replaced by Bernard Caushaj, who has previously led the Police of Korce, Shkoder and Berat.
Burgaj has also signed the transfers of two vice directors, Dorian Muca and Gjergj Jorgo.
Muca, who was attacked a few months ago with an explosive blowing up his apartment door, will lead the Money Laundering Department at the General Directory, while Jorgo, frequently accused by the opposition as a militant of the ruling party, was assigned as head of the Operational Mobility Forces, a post previously held by Shemsi Premci, who will now serve as Chief of Police in Diber.
Ylli Metko will lead the Korce Police while Artan Cuku the Police in Vlore. The two new Tirana Police vice directors will be Arjan Kurti and Gazmend Hanmitaj.
The Tirana Police Directory has been able to solve 22 out of 24 murders that happened in this district during 2011. They also referred to the Prosecution lately the investigations about the organizers of the January 21st demonstrations.
