Police directors answer at Parliamentary Commission

The Director of the Durres Police, Perlat Cullhaj, rejected the
opposition’s public declarations which accused him of supporting the
narcotics traffic.

The cause for this accusation was a Facebook photo of him in a field of cannabis. But Mr.Cullhaj explained that those photos were made in 2008 during an operation for destroying cannabis, when he was working with the sector against organized crime in Gjirokaster.

“The photo was made during an operation for destroying drugs. I have two other photos showing that this drug was destroyed a few minutes after the photo was taken”, Mr.Cullhaj declared.

As regards his appointment in that post, the Democratic Party say it is against the law, since he didn’t have the right grade when he was appointed by the former Director General, Hysni Burgaj, who had discharged him in April 2010.

Arben Ristani, Chairman of the Investigative Commission: “You are a chief officer and you’re appointed in a post for which you should have had the First Director grade. Can you explain why this rule has been violated?

Perlat Cullhaj, Director of the Durres Police: If there is a legal violation, it has been done by the director and not by me. You should ask him.

This situation was repeated with several newly appointed police officers. The Vice General Director of Police, Sokol Bizhga, insisted that there was no violation. He even challenged the members of the Commission that he was ready to resign if someone would find any violation.

Present in the session was the former Vice Director of the Police, Muhamet Rrumbullaku. When asked about the photo taken with someone who was suspected for the murder of Chief Lamaj, Mr.Rrumbullaku repeated the request of the Prosector General.

“I have repeated many times that I have nothing to do with that case. I am open for every investigation”, Rrumbullaku declared.
