After robber got to the vault of a Tirana downtown bank through the wall
of a neighboring shop, police say it shows these institutions apply
very low security levels.

The Tirana Chief of Police, Dimitraq Ziu, asked banks to review their security measure. However, police say a law would be necessary to make these measures obligatory.

“Banks hold no responsibility today for their security measures. This is the main obstacle”, he says.

Police has proposed to also increase the security of vehicles used for transportation of monetary values, which have been attacked several times.

“A vehicle that transports millions of Euros cannot be the same as a vehicle that transports small amounts. They need to apply GPS tracking and use coded safe deposit boxes inside the vans.

Three banks have been robbed in the past two months, one in Tirana, one in Vlore and another one’s van was taken by robbers inside the airport premises.
