Police appeals women for domestic violence

After the Court of Tirana raised the concern that most of the women who
experience domestic violence withdraw charges against their husbands,
the police confirms the phenomenon and make an appeal for women.

“Our appeal is that every woman who has experienced violence and want our help, should not withdraw the charges and keep looking for our protection, so that the situation does not deteriorate and so that we can avoid possible murders”, declared Edmond Meshini, Head of Patrol Police at Station 4.

Meshini says that the women in rural areas should ask protection, because it is the same as the protection of women in the cities.

“There are cases when the family members have not been able to resolve the situation. Women make a request for protection, and if they have come at that point, there is no other solution”, Meshini declared.

The domestic crime has turned into a concerning phenomenon in Albania, even in a time when the Penal Code has received harsher amends against people who commit domestic crimes.

The minimum punishment is 20 years and the maximal is life in prison.
