The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, defended the project of the new
stadium and said that the debate about its tower is senseless.
“Towered stadiums are not something new, not an invention of these Italian architects. I wold be happy if we would be the first to do it, but we’re not. The towered stadiums have existed since the first years of the past century. The current “Olimpia Stadion” in Florence has a tower built before the Second World War”, Rama declared.
Secondly, according to the Prime Minister, the tower has been requested with persistence by the architect and the studio.
“The tower was requested with persistence by the architects as an iconic element of the stadium which reflects the link between tradition in general and the ensemble, giving the stadium a significant and attractive special mark”, Rama said.
Last but not least, for Rama, is the funding.
“The price of the stadium will be about 50 million EUR and the works might require an additional funding. Who do you expect to build it? The government? The budget? The Federation? It is impossible. The only possibility is the private-public partnership”, Rama said.
The Prime Minister added that the project has received the maximal evaluation from UEFA, the representative of which was present during the presentation ceremony.
“Their representative in the presentation gave a maximal evaluation to the project. He kept asking me if we were certain that we would realize it, because it is one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world”, according to Rama.
