Albania advanced its path towards the European Union, holding the third intergovernmental meetings with the EU and opening the fourth chapter of membership.
From Brussels, Prime Minister Edi Rama commented on this development as “a very good day for our country and a very motivating step for all of us”.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, Péter Ziarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, the country holding the current EU presidency, and Marta Kos, Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations, called this ‘a historic step for Albania’.
“Today we have a clearer picture of the work that has been done and we also take it as a real encouragement that we have a lot of work ahead. All the thanks are very sincere and come from the heart, thanks to the work of the European team and the joint efforts to connect all the dots”, said Prime Minister Edi Rama, among other things.
“There is no doubt that a Europe with the Western Balkans will be stronger, more united and more secure, so our ambition is not a secret, we want to make sure, we have done our homework and our negotiations be closed in 2027. It is ambitious, but we have shared this together”, said Rama.
“All this could not have happened without the full support of the member states, who have been kind to us, but today we have a complete and clearer picture of the work that has been done. And we also take it as a real encouragement that we have a lot of work ahead of us”, added Rama.
