The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, reacted on Facebook for the US State Department report on the drug traffic.
“The most positive report in the past 25 years”, Rama said, adding that this is an encouragement for continuing on the right path.
The US State Department report for the fight against narcotics shows that Albania is still a main source of marijuana production, and a transitory point for the passage of cocaine and heroine in European markets.
During 2015, the Albanian authorities carried out a series of arrests and seized a huge amount of drugs.
“This success is mainly due to continuing cooperation with the Italian authorities and the increasing the commitment from political leaders and police”, the report says.
Albania is not a main producer of other narcotics, besides cannabis, according to the official document. Albania keeps receiving help from the USA and the EU to improve its abilities in the fight against narcotics.
The US State Department annual report on narcotics is prepared for the US Congress as part of the law hat helps other countries. It also presents the efforts of a series of main countries in the fight against the drug traffic.
The Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri, said that this is a success of the police in the fight against drug traffic.
“We are on the right track with the fight against drugs and for interrupting the connections of the drug traffic with parts of the society or decision-making. There is a success. The US report confirmed the leadership of politics and of the State Police. I believe that this is a good day for the Albanian police”, Tahiri said.
The Democratic Party MP, Flamur Noka, reacted this Thursday regarding the US State Department for Narcotics, which notes that Albania has progressed.
Noka said that the report has noted the repeated concern of the DP for the distribution of the cultivation of hashish throughout the country, and not the declarations of the Interior Minister for success.
“The report says that Albania is the main producer of cannabis in Albania and a transitory point of strong drugs”, Noka said.
According to him, “it cannot be otherwise as long as we have traffickers in Parliament”. The Democratic Party MP considered the report a shame for the government and reminded that in 2012 Albania was outside the map for the traffic of strong drugs.
