Plenty of tourists in Saranda, but not plenty of money

Saranda had a higher number of visitors this year, especially from
Italy. However, they keep staying for a short time, not spending much.
The Saranda boardwalk is full of restaurants, bars, hotels and souvenir shops, all open and shining, showing that the city is at the peak of its tourist season. The Municipality says the number of Italian visitors was surprising this year. Many have come without intermediation from tourist agencies. However, they keep staying for a short time.
Residents confirm this, saying that only citizens from Kosovo show some interest for the souvenirs.
Rachel and Perrine, two young French women have been staying in Albanbia for the past 10 days. They say they didn’t know what to expect when they started their trip, but they discovered a warm and welcoming place, with safety and good food.
Her friend, though, has a remark for the locals: “They would improve tourism if they could speak English. We found it difficult to communicate several times”.
Saranda has an accommodation capacity of 5700 people and for August it was fully booked.
