Plan for north goes to political level

The plan for establishing Kosovo police and customs agents at
checkpoints 1 and 31 in the Kosovo border with Serbia were approved
today even at political and international level.

This was confirmed for Top-Channel by the Kosovo Interior Minister, Bajram Rexhepi.

In a communication through phone, Rexhepi declared that the technical groups concluded work and everything is up to the political level.

This means that it is up to Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, representatives of the EU, Fernando Gentilini, the KFOR Commander Erehard Drews, the Chief of EULEX Yves de Cermabon and the US Ambassador Christopher.

Even the technical groups that have worked in this plan belong to these institutions.

Jarinje checkpoint doesn’t have police and customs agents. According to Minister Bajram Rexhepi, Kosovo Police, together with KFOR and EULEX, will be present at the border checkpoint 31 of Bernjak with a multiethnic team, three Albanians and three Serbian agents.

Due to the security threat, KFOR has been transporting them each day through helicopter, since July 26th.

Yesterday, the US Ambassador Christopher Dell expressed his support for Prishtina’s plans for extending their legal authority in the entire territory.

He declared that it is a legal right of Kosovo Institutions for undertaking such operations and that USA fully supports them.

The Minister for Kosovo at the Serbian Government, Goran Bogdanovic, considered this plan as unacceptable and that zeroes all billateral negotiations.

“Everything that we have negotiated would fall apart, and this raises the question: what are the dialogues needed for”, declared Bogdanovic,  who criticized the EULEX mission of taking the Kosovo side.
