PJIU, national-based proportional voting system

The Party for Justice, Integration and Unity (PJIU) declared that the
Cham population, which this party represents, is not geographically
concentrated in specific areas, but it is spread all over the Albanian
territory. For this reason, the Chams want a national proportional
system, in order to take the maximum from these votes.

But the current district-based proportional system brings MPs in the Parliament with a great difference of votes between each other.

“The vote doesn’t have a universal character and a same value in all districts. This system is unjust, but above all, we know that this system was created for making the small parties disappear”, Idrizi declared.

For changing the system that has brought polarization in the political life, from which he says that benefit only the big parties and the smaller are left out of the game, Idrizi proposes a system that according to him is transparent, equal and simpler to be administered: a national-based proportional system. If this passage needs constitutional amends, then the PJIU will agree to keep using the same system, but with a national correction.

But PJIU’s request doesn’t end here. They request the creation of a non-partial Central Election Commission and electronic voting.

“The vote administration should be civilian, not political. We propose to have a CEC that is not created by the political parties. We also need an electronic voting system. If this is not doable, then we should have at least an electronic ballot counting system”, Idrizi declared.

According to Idrizi, this would avoid another election stalemate like that of the recent elections. PJIU is clear that the next electoral reform should be all inclusive and not partisan, at it has been until today.
