Pipero: Flu situation is calm

There are five isolated cases, two of which were affected from the virus A3 or virus B. According to Pipero, as Director of Policies at the Health Ministry, every seasonal virus is dangerous and could cause complications.

“The situation is better than one year ago and we don’t have new viruses. The ones we have are known and the organism still has the memory to defend itself from them. If not followed, flu could give complications of bronchopneumonia and complications that affect the central nervous system”, Pipero declared.

Health authorities say that the number of infected people this year is smaller, with 25.000 less than one year ago, although there are many respiratory viruses around. They appeal the population to take vaccines, since by the end of February and the beginning of March there could be a new flu epidemic.

“Although it is common season flu, given ages or physical conditions might take it more seriously. The fact that the US and other countries have had deaths, means that it remains a dangerous disease, often with complications, and that’s why measures should be taken to prevent it through vaccination and those with chronic diseases”, Pipero declared.

The anti-flu vaccine is efficient even if it is two weeks before the person is affected by the virus. The Health Ministry has ordered all health units to take the necessary medications for the flu. Patients should never take advises directly from the pharmacists.
