Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Around 38 people from the areas isolated by the snow, mainly women and
children, were able to receive the necessary medical health after being
transported to hospital by the Health Ministry helicopters.
But in some cases, the pilots were unable to complete their mission, as in Arren, Peshkopia, where the helicopter returned due to the bad weather conditions.
“We have received 5 notifications, but the most urgent case was that in Arren, where a woman in the last days of her pregnancy was waiting for us. We were unable to reach her, due to the fog. The most difficult case was in Radomir, where we lifted another pregnant woman. She was lucky, because we could have been blocked there, if we stayed a few seconds more, unable to bring the patient here”, pilot Albert Xhafaj declared.
Another difficulty for the pilots was the delayed transportation of the patients to the helicopter, which has frequently put their lives in danger.
For this reason, the head of the Health Helicopter Unit, Albert Xhafaj, appealed the residents and the local leaders to cooperate with the pilots, so that the missions can be completed safely.
“A 30 meter distance from their door to the helicopter has taken 30 minutes. We appeal the head of the communes and the persons in charge to specify the commune or the neighborhood where the sick persons are, so that their family members can give us a signal”, declared Albert Xhafaj.
The Chief Pilot of the Health Ministry Helicopter Unit underlined that the pilots communicate with the Health Ministry and other high rank leaders of this department for the problems met in terrain and where the air intervention is hampered by the bad weather conditions, by obliging the pilots to travel to areas in need.
