Petition addressed to Rama

14/01/2013 00:00

Descendants of the men who signed the Albanian Declaration of
Independence joined the intellectuals who asked the opposition leader to
allow Socialist MPs vote the three remaining laws that are required for
the EU candidate status.

They say that they are honouring the act of their predecessors, founders of the Albanian state, such as Ismail Qemali, Luigj Gurakuqi, Xhelal Koprencka, Abdi and Murat Toptani, Mit’hat Frasheri, Bedri Pejani, Lef Nosi, Mustafa Merlika and others.

The Socialist leader, Edi Rama, commented this request by saying that the intellectuals who take the government’s side and go against the opposition belong to a species created by the former communist leader, Enver Hoxha, and as such it is degraded and ridiculous species.”

The signers of the “Pro Integration” initiative say that the request is on the behalf of every Albanian and against no one. They say that they were hurt by Rama’s language, filled with hatred; a language that according to them is similar to what used Enver Hoxha against the Albanian elite, including most of the Albanian state founders, who were executed without a fair trial or were interned and persecuted. Intellectuals and descendants of Independence signers say that their path is the EU integration. They invite Mr. Rama to join them in this path that has been embraced by most of the Albanians.
