Studies show that by 2050, Albania will have more than 20% of the population more than 65 years old.
These persons should benefit from the pension scheme, now sustained by the state budget revenues. The expert of social matters, Fadil Kep explained that today there are 570.000 pensioners in Albania, for whom there is a financial bill of 80 billion ALL. Albania has 650.000 people who pay insurances, a total of 45 billion. The other part of the money is compensated by the state budget.
“There are currently 570.000 pensioners, 16% of the population. Social insurance expenses in 2010 were 80 billion ALL, only 45 billion of which are covered by the social contribute. The remaining part is compensated by the state”, Kepi declared.
The experts of social matters, Fadil Kepi clarifies that by increasing the pension age to 70 years, the government cuts to half the number of persons who receive pensions, and also the financial bill that burdens the insurance scheme.
“They should change the pension age, but not the same for everyone. Jobs that demand harder physical conditions cannot afford going to pension at an elderly age. They must take all measures for not leaving anyone without insurances”, Kepi declared.
13.000 people will receive pensions this year, and if the pension age will change, 7000 of them will remain at their working places. This would also cause a crisis for the job market, leaving less free jobs. According to Kepi, the pension age increase should be reviewed for each category of employees, and the government should take in consideration the Albanians’ economic level.
