Penal Code passed without “falsifiers”

The opposition gave its consensus for passing the Penal Code of Albania,
despite the persistence for considering as a penal act the
falsification of official statistics, a request that was rejected by the
ruling party.

The Penal Code passed with 128 votes in favor and none against, while the Socialist Parliamentary Group leader, Gramoz Ruci, accused the majority of blocking two of the three reforms which the two political forces had previously agreed for.

“The opposition has agreed with the government for three decisions: the first, to approve the qualified majority laws within march; the second is to end the Parliamentary Reform by 15 March and the third is to conclude the electoral reform before March 1st.  The opposition has given its essential contribution for the first request, helping to make our legislation approximate with that of the EU. But for the two last decisions, we haven’t had a concrete result in the Parliamentary table and in the Parliamentary agenda for March.  It was proved that you lack of the political will for punishing the people who falsify statistics, and that you need the falsification to conceal the crisis and debt the Albanian economy has plunged into. What will Albania lose if we don’t pass this? Nothing, because the Albanians have already lost what was there to lose! The outgoing government has left Albania unemployed, in debt, with social wounds, in a dark pit. So, you achieved what you wanted”, Ruci declared.

Ruci then added that the opposition expects reflection by the majority for undertaking the necessary reforms.

“You must forget the alibi that the opposition is against the reforms and integration. You must forget the alibi for not performing the electoral reform. You must forget the alibi for the fulfillment of the EU recommendations. You have taken no concrete step, and it seems that you will not undertake any step. However, we are here, waiting for you to reflect, same as Brussels and the international partners”, declared the Socialist Parliamentary Group leader.

The Parliament also prolonged the mandate of the Electoral Commission Reform until April 30th, while according to the November agreement between the DP and the SP, this Commission should have concluded its task on March 1st.
