Parallel articles related with the offence of “Slander” have been
amended or removed from the Penal Code. More than 30 articles proposed
by the government and restructured by the opposition passed with
consensus between the government and opposition.

With the opposition’s persistence, slander and offence, accusations frequently directed to journalists, will remain penal acts but will provide only measures with fine, not imprisonment, as it had been so far.

The Socialist accepted to remove from the Penal Code the current protection of officials towards slander and offence due to their duty.

The majority and the opposition agreed to not grant penal protection from slander and offence to the justice members. The case will be treated as penal when the judges will be offended or will be subject to a slander only due to a case that they have undergoing.

“If we want to protect justice, we must defend the justice members by attacks when they are on duty”, declared the Chairman of the Commission of Laws, Ilir Rusmali.

Tuesday will be a day full of activities for the Commission of Laws. They will review the mandate of MP Gumi and the propositions of the Civil Society, the proposition for domestic violence kaw and the the electoral reform commission, in order to include election violations in the Penal Code.

If everything will go well and the consensus spell will not be broken, the Commission of Laws will go to Parliament with an unanimous decision for voting even the Penal Code amends.
