Payments for disabled people

The National Council of Disabled People accused the Albanian government
of discrimination, since they have not been receiving the compensations
granted by law for some months now. Sinan Tafaj, head of the Council,
reported the government’s failure to index the inflation level in the
disabled people’s payments.
“The government increased pensions and wages, including the minimal wage, but did not index the payments. This is a discrimination against disabled people, a lack of responsibility of the Minister of Labor”, declared Sinan Tafaj, chairman of the Disabled People Association.
Disabled people pay full electricity, phone and transportation bills, while the compensation has even been reduced.
“The government decision that has not entered in act yet limits the benefits that we disabled people have had so far. Since April 29th and until this law will enter in act, we have benefited half of the sum for phone and electricity”, Tafaj declared.
The disabled people say that they will continue their protest and that they have updated all international institutions.
