Majlinda Bregu, The Minister of Integration, and the Socialist MP,
Ditmir Bushati, who were present at the European Parliament hearing and
at the EU Stabilization and Association Council, confirmed for Top
Channel the good will of both parties for closing the November agreement
reforms on time.
As for the candidate status, the Minister underlined the electoral reform and the presidential election, while the Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for Integration reminded other areas in which Albania needs to give results.
Bregu: Brussels’ message, clear for everyone
“I believe that this was a clear message for all, although unsaid in a given period of time. However, the Electoral Reform Commission deadline is today. I know that the Electoral Reform Commission has gathered and they are working, as they worked yesterday late at night. 99% of the propositions were brought by the opposition and were accepted even today. The final report is being written with the OSCE/ODIHR suggestions.
It is important that this process concludes and brings the result for which it started: the consensus spirit and the political will among parties for accepting the electoral code amends, based on the OSCE-ODIHR recommendations. This process could close today or tomorrow. It is important to not have a returning back, as the Commissioner declared, so that this agreement and this political consensus can be stable and have no more changes.
Certainly, the presidential election has been considered a negotiable process that will represent not only the process, but also a president elected according to the Constitutional spirit, a process that will not confuse the parties or divide them for issues that could remain unsolved”, declared Minister Majlinda Bregu.
Bushati: Consensual President, key element for candidate status
Ditmir Bushati, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for Integration, declared for Top Channel:
“The electoral and Parliamentary reforms must be completed, so that the November agreement can be considered accomplished.
The second element is related with the election of the Albanian President and the EU requires for the November package to be concluded before starting the procedures for electing the new President, which is required to come out of an all inclusive process and guarantee a president that stands above the parties, and that is a symbol of the national unification.
The third element includes the priorities from 6 to 12: justice, public administration reforms, organized crime, corruption, property rights, the basic rights and freedoms, focusing on the Roma community, the disabled people and detainees.
The reforms should be stable, truthful and reach such a level that enables the European Commission to give a positive evaluation for Albania’s EU candidate status”.
