The Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, decreed the date of the next Parliamentary Elections, which is 23 June 2013.

A Presidency Press Release explains that the decree was based on articles 92.Gj and 93 of the Albanian Constitution, and article 9.1 of law 10019 of the Electoral Code.

“The parliamentary elections will be held Sunday June 23rd 2013”, the press release says.

One month ago, the President met the party leaders to decide the date.

His first meeting was with the head of the majority’s Parliamentary Group, Astrit Patozi, and then the opposition one, Gramoz Ruci.

Both meetings were set 60 minutes from each other. Then the President met the leaders of the smaller Parliamentary parties, such as Fatmir Mediu from the Republican Party; Lefter Koka from the Socialist Movement for Integration Party; Vangjel Dule from the United for Human Rights Party sent his vice, Thanas Poci, who declared his support for the date.

The last meeting was with Shpetim Idrizi, from the Party for Justice, Unity and Integration. The only parliamentary party that was not invited was the New Democratic Spirit, which was created this year and is represented in Parliament by MP Gazmend Oketa.

Credible sources declared that the two biggest parties had the same stance on this issue.
