Parliamentary disagreements on new HCJ member

12/04/2012 00:00

The majority was able to elect Elis Cefa as the Parliament’s representative at the High Council of Justice.

As rarely before, all MPs were present on the floor, except for Rudina Seseri, who has resigned. Although the majority counts 74 votes, they were able to secure only 71 of them. The voting for such appointments is hidden, and it caused debates among the MPs.

When the voting secretariat should prepare the boxes fr a manual voting, the majority asked the ballots to be signed by all three secretariat members. The opposition hesitated for this, saying that MPs could put identification signs on the ballots. They opposed the signature on the moment when the MPs would receive the ballots, and asked the ballots to be either sealed or signed before the voting.

Since there was no consensus, the Parliament Speaker started the electronic voting. The majority’s candidate won 71 votes, while the Socialist Party organized an urgent meeting of the SP Parliamentary Group.
