The Commission of Productive Activities passed the law which authorizes
three ministries to negotiate the agreement of a giant port in Kavaja,
but the Parliament Members were skeptical.

Namik Kopliku, from the Socialist Party, asked what the offer means by considering the area “the most suitable place in the Mediterranean”. The Minsiter said that from the strategic position, it is considered the same as Roterda or the Suez Canal.

However, the highest skepticism was related to the financial guarantees of the companies that will carry out the 5 billion USD project.

“The company has a capital of just 100 pounds”, asked the Democratic Party MP, Helidon Bushati.

“‘Starbridge Poor Development LTD’ mixes several investors, such as ‘William Blair’ or ‘Icon Capital’”, te Minister explained.

After being asked by MP Eduard Shalsi about the way how they are committed, she explained that “William Blair is committed with its memorandum, the SPV registered in Wales”.

“But none of these companies shows any cooperation project with the companies they have applied for in Albania”, MP Bushati said.

The draft passed only with the votes of the majority while the opposition abstained, asking for more transparency for the project which, according to the government, creates 70.000 jobs.
