Parliament Regulation Commission starts work

02/12/2011 00:00

The working group for reviewing and improving the Parliament Regulation
held the first meeting in an understanding climate between the majority
and opposition.

As agreed, the working group that has equal number of Socialist and Democratic members has undertaken two tasks. The first is to improve the Parliament Regulation, by taking as model the regulation and procedures of the European Parliament and the recommendations of the European Commission.

Secondly, the Working Group will propose an improvement of the legal framework for the MP status and the quality of the Parliamentary control, referring to the European Parliament practices. The Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli, considered the current regulation as a document of best democratic standards but that can be perfected with the best practices of the European Parliament.

The Socialist co-chairman of the working group, Namik Dokle, gave a positive evaluation and showed the opposition’s readiness for improving the problematic articles.

Same as at the Electoral Reform Commission, this is this is only the beginning of the work for the majority and the opposition, whose European partners are expecting consensual and concrete results.
