The Albanian Parliament did not vote the qualified majority laws that
are a condition for the EU candidate status. The head of the Democratic
Party Parliamentary Group, Astrit Patozi, asked the Socialists to not
delay integration, while the opposition insisted for the unblocking of
the Fier District issue.
“The EU is waiting our approval, but they will not wait forever, so that we can end our stress for the status. But the SP is ready to not vote the simple laws, let alone those that demand qualified majority. This is the next blockage”, Patozi declared.
“You think that we are some numbers that when you need help, we can give our vote. If you want the law for the Supreme Court, sit at the Commission and ask the opposition’s opinion, don’t ignore it as you have done so far”, declared the Socialist homologue, Gramoz Ruci.
Berisha was involved in a harsh debate with the MP Arben Ahmetaj, and the head of the Socialist Group, after some accusations for the corruption made towards them.
“You’re the same as Lukashenko and Chavez. You have robbed the Albanians since 1997, you have killed 26 people in Gerdec. You are dirty and you cannot speak about economy”, declared MP Ahmetaj.
Berisha also debated with the Socialist MP, Olta Xhacka, about her election as the head of the Socialist Women Forum.
The story behind the Fier District issue
But what is happening at the Fier district, which is causing debates at the Albanian Parliament. Invited on Top Channel’s main news edition, the Fier Socialist MP, Armando Subashi, declared:
“The Fier District story has been on the media for almost one year. After the local elections, one of the duties was the election of the District representatives, 56 councilors from our coalition and 46 from our opponents. The meeting ended with the election of the chairman and the Vice Chairman, who obviously belonged to our force. The majority did not agree with this process and intervened by removing the left councilors through pressure and replaced them with theirs. Our 14 councilors that were discharged appealed in court, and 11 of them have won, but the prefect doesn’t allow them to act as councilors of the Fier District. For us it is important to implement the judicial decisions. The District is part of the Constitution and the Courts ruled that the mandate of a councilor is untouchable”, Mr. Subashi declared.
If the Socialists will continue conditioning the qualified majority law with the Fier District issue, the Socialist MP says that they will establish a standard for respecting the court decisions. Subashi appealed the majority to implement these decisions and only the will the Socialists be ready to work for the laws in Parliament.
