After the Central Election Commission, the Parliament of Albania
published the applications of every high-level public official that will
be reviewed from this institution.
Among the 137 applications that was published, there is the name of the President of the Albanian Republic, Bujar Nishani, who declared that he changed his name from Nishani to Mehmeti, saying that it has been like that only on the school documents.
The President says he kept this surname due to the parental ties with Omer Nishani. For this reason, he changed his name to Mehmeti but changed it back again after the dictatorship.
The Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission, Lefterije Lleshi, has also changed her name from Lumturie to Lefterie.
The names have been changed by two other members of the Central Election Commission. Klement Zguri has changed it from Klementin, and Vera Shtjefni has changed it from Luce.
The applications show that the Prosecutor General has filed the application by mistake.
