Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Albanian Prime Minister and Socialist MP Ben Blushi exchanged irony
and accusations in the Parliament during the budget discussions.
The first topic was that of new grants that the government gives for the local administration and the fiscal autonomies that have the municipalities and communes.
“The former Mayor collected taxes for the fact that they had to use their own name for the businesses. If you called it ‘Blushi’, you would be paying 900.000 ALL only for your name there”, Berisha said to Blushi.
“Maybe you are not aware, but the tax for small business has discretion. You can tie your tie differently, but it is the same tie. Discretion for businesses was 30%, with the possibility to reduce it since 2005”, Blushi declared.
These dialogues continued even for the Skenderbej Square project, with the PM saying that the government returned it to the citizens.
“Yes, the square is marvelous. Now it is green. Do you understand what a Pyramid did in the center of the square?”, Berisha declared.
“In fact, that square is better than before. I admit it. But there’s something wrong about it. I walk there everyday and now you cannot go to Skenderbeg’s monument, unless you’ll have to remove your shoes”, Bushi replied.
The discussions were followed with debates between the Prime Minister and the Socialist MPs, while the Minister of Finances, different to other times, this time preferred to not participate in the debate.
