Pandemic makes education more expensive / Graduates prefer private courses as they consider public education lacking

The reduced hours and teaching in shifts as a result of the pandemic are orienting the students’ parents to demand quality teaching towards private extracurricular courses.

“I will take the girl to a foreign language course, as they are a technology-oriented generation and not books. The total cycle costs us 170 thousand ALL. The boy will attend an English and football course. Both cost a total of 60 thousand old lek. Spending doesn’t end. But as long as we have children, we will try to meet their needs,” said one parent.

Graduates say they are more interested in private courses. A private math class costs an average of 10 thousand old lekë, two sessions a week is 20,000 lekë, a monthly course costs 80,000 lekë.

But a graduate can attend two or more courses, which may cost their parents about 160,000 old lek per month.
