Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
The Albanian Foreign Minister, Edmond Panariti, reiterated his appeal to
the Albanian parties to find a common consensus and pass the laws
required by the European Council, otherwise the EU candidate status will
be at risk.
Panariti released this declaration at the Parliamentary Commission of Integration, where he reported in front of the MPs.
“The European Council requires the passing of three laws so that Albania can receive the EU candidate status. The opening of the negotiations starts by fulfilling the key priorities of the European Union. The next elections are also key priority for the integration, together with the independence of justice institutions and the continuity of the fight against corruption. The EU institutions demand concrete engagement of our political class and the three laws open the green light for the EU candidate status from Albania”, Panariti declared.
In response to the opposition’s request to clarify the stance of every EU country regarding Albania’s status, keeping in mind the stance of Netherlands, Panariti declared that the Netherlands will not be against our EU candidate status, but the official stance regarding this fact will be given by the Dutch Foreign Minister at the European summit.
“We cannot separate the EU countries in three groups for Albania’s status. The final stance of Netherlands will be given on December 11th. Netherlands supports the EU enlargement, but they demand that the war against corruption and organized crime should continue”, he added.
Panariti referred to the declarations of released by Prime Minister Berisha, which brought a diplomatic clash with Greece, underlining that they were made in a clear historical context and it was not about territorial changes.
