The village of Panaja in Vlora, in southwestern Albania is known for its vineyards and olive groves, as currently around 200 residents live there.

But for years, the concern of the residents is the supply of drinking water. They told “Fiks Fare” program, that they are supplied with about 30 minutes of running water once every two days, and this is at night when everyone is sleeping.

When the water comes from the taps, they alert each other to get up and turn on the pumps to fill the houses’ tanks. The residents say that they have complained and have met with the officials of the Vlora Waterworks, but they have only received ‘promising words’.

The water that comes to the village with a very limited schedule is not potable. So they are forced to pay for water trucks that come once a week to the village.

These residents are regular payers of water bills, and are charged the approximate rate of 1,620 ALL/month. Under these conditions, “Fiks Fare” inquired in Vlorë Water and Sewerage.

The director Elona Hodaj, claimed that she is familiar with the problem of the village of Panaja, which according to her was carried over from previous years.

She asserted that soon the situation would improve with the completion of the investments for works in 15 villages, including the pumping station of the village of Panaja.

A week after Fiks Fare’s interest, UKV announced that they had intervened in the improvement of the situation and currently it was possible to supply water to the village of Panaja every day from 15:00 to 17:00 hours.
