“Serbia shouldn’t necessary say they recognize Kosovo’s independence, but they should act as if they recognize it”, said the Foreign Minister of Kosovo, Behgjet Pacolli, in an interview for Deutsche Welle.
Pacolli admitted that Serbia could influence the region and that Kosovo, which shares a long border with it, is interested to have good relations with Belgrade.
When asked if he really thinks that Serbia will recognize the independence of Kosovo, Pacolli spoke Serbian during the interview and said: “One day, yes”.
The Foreign Minister said he trusts that relations will be improved. He underlines that his country has not reacted to the so-called provocations, for months, while Serbian politicians were allowed to visit Kosovo.
As for a possible division of the country, the first person in charge of the Kosovo diplomacy quoted the Ahtisaari plan, which specifies that there cannot be divisions or unifications with other countries.
“Time when borders could be changed, has gone”, Pacolli declared.
Deutsche Welle, however, reports that Pacolli didn’t give a direct answer when asked if there would be national unification. He simply said that there will be excellent relations with Albania, and that they will hold joint government meetings.
“We are oriented to Europe and we know that borders will have no sense one day”, Pacolli declared.
