Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The cooperation between the OSCE and the Albanian Parliament has
resulted futile, not only for the presentation of the work between the
two institutions, but also for the important messages that have been
given from the Commission of Laws.
The reconstruction of this premise for one of the most important Parliamentary Commission, where the OSCE, with funds from the German Embassy, has helped the Albanian Parliament in modernizing the premises where the MPs work, and for increasing the transparency of the Parliament to the public. Important messages were released today from the new Commission of Laws room. The OSCE Ambassador, Eugen Wollfarth, declared that the parties have approached the finish line and that they must concretize the November Agreement.
“I appeal all parties to not forget that they receive their Parliament posts to serve to the will of the Albanian people, and the Albanian people must see an electoral code that is approved through consensus, on the bases of which there will be successful elections in the next year”, Wollfarth declared.
The other important case is the election of the Albanian President.
“I hope to see a process that is based on a good spirit. I hope to see a Constitutional process that shows to the Albanian people how the representatives can unite for a national interest such as the Presidential election. I hope to see more understanding and a new President that is elected through consensus”, Wollfarth declared.
But these messages were heard only from the majority, because the opposition we absent in the inauguration of this joint project between the OSCE and the Parliament. Only the Socialist MP, Bashkim Fino, was present at the ceremony. Fino didn’t hesitate to applaud the Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli, when she said that the Parliament is the place of challenges and that every challenge is an opportunity for pushing the electoral reform ahead, together with the election of the next President.
But earlier, the Parliament Speaker gave an important message about her candidacy as the next President.
“With the increase of the Parliamentary dimension, because the Parliament is the main forum of democracy and the main pillar, the place where all the reforms are made and where all other institutions are elected, I am proud to be the Speaker of the Parliament, because this is the main arena of debates and reforms that have transformed our country. I am sure that we will work together in the future for other projects”, Topalli declared.
One of the OSCE projects that is about to become reality is the digitalization of all Parliamentary documents since 1920 and until the start of WWII, which will be published for the 100th year of independence.
But most urgent is the start of the procedures for the presidential election, which will start this Thursday, as the Parliament Speaker confirmed while inaugurating the new perss room together with Ambassador Wollfarth.
