Many christian Orthodox believers of Myzeqe region in central Albania, but also from other areas of the country or foreign tourists, marked today the birth of Saint Mary in the Monastery of Ardenica in Lushnja, in the southwest of the country.
September 8 coincides in the Orthodox Christian calendar with the birth of Mary, who would later give birth to Jesus Christ the Savior.
After attending the traditional mass led by the metropolitan of Amantia, the believers returned to the church to perform the traditional rites of the holiday.
Father Dhimitër Rredhi, the priest of Saint Mary’s Church in Ardenica, said among other things, at the mass that September 8 is a traditional holiday for all faithful.
For local and foreign visitors the day is considered sacred as they come every year to the monastery near the church, the latter bearing the name of Saint Mary.
In order to respect the holiday, the municipality of the city of Lushnja has decided to declare September 8 a local holiday and it has created a series of activities such as artistic concerts and a local fair with the products of the Ardenica area.
According to mayor Eriselda Sefa, this celebration will turn into a tradition that helps all the businesses of the area, giving visitors the opportunity to get to know the culture and products in offer.
