The Sixth contingent of the Albanian Marine, and the Oriku military ship, returned this Sunday from their Aegean mission where they carried out NATO operations to prevent traffic of clandestine refugees from Middle-Eastern countries.

Defense Minister Olta Xhacka valued the humanitarian dimension of this international operation, carried out by Albanian marines, which saved more than 1000 lives.

“You saved more than 1000 lives, 1000 hearts that will thank you for the hand of hope that you lent them. You brought hope to people coming from unsafe areas, which forced them to undertake these dangerous actions”, Xhacka said.

The Aegean mission will now be continued by the seventh contingent of the Albanian Marine, which also has modern NATO-standard equipment.
