Opposition: Postpone income declaration deadline

31/01/2012 00:00

The Socialists asked the government to postpone deadline of the draft
law that obliges the individuals with more than 2 million ALL of annual
income to hand the income declaration over to the tax office. Socialist
MP Arben Ahmetaj declared that Albania is not ready to implement this
law.

“The problem of the opposition is that the great number of declarations will confuse the system, and in a given point it might be unable to create a solid relation between the system and the tax payer. We propose the postponement of the deadline, until the administration is ready. We support the law, but we propose to postpone it until 2014 or 2015”, Ahmetaj declared.

The majority says that the administration is ready to face this process, since even with the changes made to the law, the number of applicants is still limited.

“It is the same problem that was some years ago, when the collected taxes were reduced, and the opposition said that with this tax level, the incomes would be reduced and we would have no possibilities to finance the public expense, but the truth was different. The problem is solved, because this administration has already proved that it is more than capable to manage the tax system”, declared Sybi Hida, Democratic MP.

The Parliamentary Commission of Economy approved the law amends only with the votes of the Democratic Party, while the opposition abstained. The recent amends include the increase of the income limit that an individual must have for being obliged to apply with the annual declaration, from 200.000 to 2 million ALL. They also postponed the deadline for handing over the first declarations, which now will be after September 30th.
