Opposition MPs: “Medicaments missing at the Tirana University Hospital Center”

The Democratic Party MPs, Albana Vokshi, Albina Deda and Bedri Mihaj,
visited this Wednesday the Oncology hospital at the Tirana University
Hospital Center to watch closely the patient treatment.

According to them, the hospital lacks of beds and medicaments for hospitalized patients. MPs stated that the cervix treatment equipment had not been working for years, only because it needs a decision from the Prime Minister’s office. Also, one of the cobalt-therapy cannot function, since its energy source has expired and it can damage the patients’ life.

“You saw the long queues of patients waiting. They have arrived from all parts of Albania and they couldn’t start a visit. We met patients who not only had not received free cures, but they were forced to buy medicaments up to 300.000 ALL. We spoke for the cobalt equipments and it was confirmed that one of them has not worked at all and it was brought back to function only a few days ago. I want to underline that if Rama and Beqaj give 338 million EUR for their clients, sponsors and their friends, the patients keep waiting to receive nothing. The tender for the equipment was done by the Berisha government but they have been neglected by this government. This government is not interested to the care of Albanian citizens, but to get richer”, Vokshi said.

The Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Health Commission mentioned the pressure that the government is giving to doctors and professionals. “The personnel has been threatened to not accompany the Parliament Members of the Democratic Party. They were told that we come as criminals. I want to say to Edi Rama that we are not criminals. We are here to show our interest for the health care of the patients. The criminal here is Edi Rama and Minister Ilir Beqaj who is not using the taxpayers’ money to improve their health, but to their pockets. We will not stay silent. We will denounce. Professor Sallaku told us that the cervix cancer equipment ahs not been working for the past three years just for a decision from Edi Rama’s cabinet. These are the initiatives that us as MPs are bringing to the Parliament”, Vokshi said.
