Opposition leader to ambassadors: “No hipocrisy with time limits. No votes for draft”

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, has never been more clear
with his public answers to the US representatives. After the Democratic
Party Parliamentary Group, Basha held a press release and officialized
the new draft of the justice reform.

“The opposition should not be pressured with hypocrisies such as there is no time. We have been in favor of the reform from day one, but not to the political control of the justice system. We have our propositions based on the European standard. If there is good will, we will sit and discuss, so that we can progress. Certainly, this requires time and not pressure or hipocrisy”, the DP leader said.

Basha was clear and did not accept the argument that there is not enough time, and that the ambassadors were connecting it with the possibility to open the negotiations.

“The most urgent thing in Albania is to guarantee fair elections. Anyone must forget that the EU will open the accession negotiations of an Albania that does not guarantee free and fair elections. The time to create fair elections is running out. This is what we don’t have enough time for”, Basha said.

The Democratic Party have accepted only one project that does not allow the government to control the system. According to basha, this is not the official draft.

“The Democratic Party has never accepted and will never accept justice institutions that leave room for people like Shullazi and Kokedhima to control it. The current Prime Minister, or any Prime Minister in the future, should not be allowed to do whatever they like”, Basha said.

With this stance, the Democratic Party will have to calculate its votes only. The Socialist Movement for Integration which had its own draft in Venice, today has consolidated its stance in favor of the official draft.
