The US State Secretary, John Kerry, met with the opposition leader,
Lulzim Basha, after the meetings he had with the Prime Minister and the
Foreign Minister.

Kerry met with Basha at the Rogner Hotel, together with four MPs, Edi Paloka, Edmond Spaho, Jorida Tabaku and Aldo Bumci.

The historic leader of the DP, Sali Berisha, was absent in this meeting.  Kerry is believed to have underlined the need for passing the key reforms, especially the Justice Reform, as a foundation stone for Albania’s EU progress.

The opposition leader, Lulzim Basha, said the DP has shown its determination for the reforms with the decriminalization law, which, according to Basha, would have not been successful without the contribution of the EU.

Basha said that the key issue of the Albanian democracy is having free and fair elections, for which the DP asks support from the international community, in order to have them as credible as possible.

“I am grateful to Secretary Kerry who found time to discuss with the Albanian opposition, which will do everything possible to enable participating democracy and to end the oligarchy in power”, Basha said.
