Although the Parliament Members of the Media Commission agreed one week
ago on the formula that would be used for selecting the members of the
Council of Albanian Public Television, the process was blocked once
again today.
The Chairman of this Commission, Genc Pollo, declared that the Parliament Members of the majority and opposition did not find consensus for the selection of candidates.
“We had a voting, with the opposition voting against number 20, and now we are in this situation. The decision belongs to the Commission, but the decision is unilateral in a procedure that the law foresees as consensual”.
Alfred Peza answered: “Don’t abuse with the word ‘consensus’. A consensual law is a law that is voted”.
The vice chairman of this Commission, Alfred Peza, declared that the opposition is withholding the Public Television by blocking the process for the selection of the Council and the selection of the Director.
“The opposition continues with the strategy of blocking the reforms and the new leaders of important institutions, part of which is the Public Television. It has been blocked for years. The 10 members of this Council and the Director have their mandates expired or they have resigned”.
The process for the selection of the Public Television and its Director is being delayed for months by the opposition. The Commission will discuss next month about the replacement of the four vacancies at the Audiovisual Media Authority.
