Opposition accuses Bank Governor

The opposition has strongly opposed the candidacy of the current Bank
Governor, Ardian Fullani, for a second mandate at the Supervisory
Council of the Albanian Central Bank.

The Socialist MP, Erion Brace, accused Fullani of being dependant to the Albanian government, and this has caused serious consequences to the Constitutional independence of the Bank. Brace also accused Fullani of offering favors and creating the conditions for abusive profits to the big operators of the market, especially with the treasury bonds.

Fullani added that he is the only candidate that has never been involved in politics for the last 20 years, and that he has turned the Albanian Bank into an independent and transparent institution. As for the market operators, Fullani added that the market is not dependent from the Albanian Bank, but the Bank simply controls them.

Erjon Brace declared that Fullani candidacy is related with other causes, rather than his contribution in the banking system. Brace added that his candidacy by the government is indispensable for stopping justice from bringing justice, and for continuing the most public corruption affair in the history of democratic Albania.

Fullani considered these accusations as shameless and that it is not in his moral or family ethics to be involved in the processes for which he was accused by Brace.

The other candidacies, different from Fullani’s, passed without any debates and the opposition even gave a positive opinion.

In the end, the candidacies for the Supervisory Council were approved only with the majority’s votes, since the opposition refused to participate, insisting that the voting should be made in a plenary session with secret voting.
