The European Union foreign ministers today decided in favor of opening accession talks with Albania and Northern Macedonia.
Immediately after the decision came the reaction of the EU ambassador to Tirana, Luigi Soreca, who stated that the EU would continue to stand by Albania, and also congratulated the country on the big step towards the EU, calling it an ‘historic day’.
In his post, Soreca says that from today Albania has a new status vis-à-vis the European Union, as a series of new rules will be implemented which will help the Albanian people to join the European family as soon as possible.
He points out that besides the work of the government an effort of the whole society is required, which will need the cooperation of all institutions, the opposition and the civil society.
Today is a historical day for #Albania??. The #EU?? Member States have taken the unanimous
decision to open #accession negotiations with Albania.
I wish to congratulate ?? for the big step made towards becoming an EU member.
