Only “Kosovo” in international meetings

The government of Kosovo is on the verge of agreeing with Serbia and the
EU for being represented in regional initiations without the term
“Republic”.

This was confirmed by the Deputy Prime Minister, Edita Tahiri, while explaining that Serbia has also given up from the resolution 1244. According to Edita Tahiri, who held a meeting with the EU mediator, Robert Cooper, this is one step forward, because Kosovo has been represented by UNMIK so far.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, did not deny or confirm this fact, but he insisted that Kosovo should be represented as an independent and sovereign state.

“The government of the Republic of Kosovo will be responsible in the dialogue process by respecting the Constitution and the laws, according to the Ahtisari package. This means the full respecting of the sovereignty, the territorial integration, the Constitution and Kosovo’s laws. Kosovo will be represented as an independent and sovereign state”, PM Thaci declared.

So far, Kosovo has been represented under the UNMIK logo, and many times Serbia has boycotted, due to the presence of the Kosovo authorities. Even after the journalists’ persistence, Thaci gave no technical details for how Kosovo would be presented. He called “ignorant” some opposition members who criticized the government that by renouncing the term “republic” they are turning Kosovo into a country like Palestine.

“These comparisons are unstable declarations of those people who do not know Kosovo’s circumstances, pretending to create confusion in the public opinion. 2012 is the year of historical success for the Republic of Kosovo, and every voice that wants to make steps back is the voice of an ignorant or defeatist that doesn’t believe in the full functionality of the state of Kosovo”, declared the Kosovo Prime Minister.

Thaci did not respond to any of the Self-Determination questions for his meeting with Tadic. When asked where his party takes the information for the Self-Determination Movement, Albin Kurti, when he accuses him of having connections with the Serbs, the Kosovo Prime Minister declared that he would not use the government’s premises for partial comments.
