Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future On July 2011, the 60 year old Caush Isaraj, from Humelica, gjirokaster,
threatened to commit suicide if the state wouldn’t resolve his problem
with the property. Nine months after this event, the Ombudsman, Igli
Totozani, asked the General Prosecutor, Ina Rama, to abrogate a trial
suspension decision, taken by the Gjirokaster Prosecution before the
senior citizen attempted to take his own life.
According to the Ombudsman, the unilateral stances of the Prosecution have created severe consequences of the man who then tried to kill himself.
A document says that this person has filed a complaint at the Gjirokaster Prosecution, claiming that he had been robbed of 10 hectares of land through falsified documents. The senior citizen also filed a report for the use of physical violence against him.
But the Prosecution suspended the case and the Ombudsman considers this action as wrong. The senior citizen had submitted many documents that should be verified. The Ombusdman declared that the Prosecution has not held an objective and unbiased position in this case.
“The Prosecution should have investigated the declaration of this citizen and the injuries he had on his body, and the fact that he was hospitalized for 13 days. Witnesses have seen the accused people in the Andon Poci village, confirming their alibi that they were not present when it took place”, the document declared.
The Ombudsman says that the suspension is not based on law and evidence, and that the prosecution should reassess the evidence for the persons who have caused him physical injuries.
