Ombudsman for anthem change: Just an idea

The Albanian Ombudsman, Igli Totozani, declared that changing one verse
of the Albanian hymn, which discriminates women, is just an idea and
will never be a real request.

During a TV show, the Ombudsman declared that he sees appropriate to change the verse “Who is a man, will never surrender”, since the word “man” leaves the women outside the national anthem.

“It is just an idea, regardless how the media turned it into a discussion point. I have no competences to order anyone to change the national anthem, which I love so much and I frequently sing. It was an idea for the society to think over”, Totozani declared.

According to the Ombudsman, the word “man” could be replaced with the word “Albanian”, which includes everyone who feels Albanian.

An Ombudsman official declaration says that the Ombudsman suggested a small change in the efforts to make women and men more equal.

Totozani gave this declaration after a meeting with the Minister of Labor, Mr. Spiro Ksera, and the eight Roma families who are waiting to be temporarily sheltered at a military building, as the Minister had promised a few time ago.

The Roma families will be accommodated in the military premises and they will not be allowed to beg, since the Ministry of Labor will include them in an employment program.
