The deadline for the online applications on the web page opened by the Socialist Party for Albania’s next Ombudsman has expired.

This method that aims to bring transparency has given 31 applicants, four of which are women. Most of the applicants come from the academic world, and two of them live in Canada and Great Britain.

The MP Eglantina Gjermeni, member of the Selecting Commission, declared for Top Channel that they are satisfied with this number of applications.

“The Commission was surprised by the great number of applications. There are 31 applicants, and the diversity of the CVs, scientific qualifications and experience in the human rights field is an asset in this list, which will make the Ombudsman election process even more difficult”, Gjermeni declared.

The Socialist MP explains the further steps of this process:

“The Commission will organize some meetings for electing the best candidacies in this function, for organizing hearing sessions with them, with the purpose to allow each candidate to present his ideas and visions for the Ombudsman”.

The last word for the candidacies will be given by the Socialist highest structures.

“We, as a Commission, will prepare a summary for each candidacy, selecting the best ones and presenting them to the SP Parliamentary Group and the Socialist Party leadership. The best candidacy will be voted and will be presented to the Parliament”, Gjermeni underlined.

The Socialist MP says that this selection model will be followed in the future for candidates with similar posts, as the only way of transparency in front of the citizens.
