Sokol Olldashi did not disappoint the public expectancies when he chose
this Tuesday to declare his candidacy for leading the Democratic Party.
He needed two days to take this decision, during which he said he contacted the party base, especially the incumbent leader, Sali Berisha, who guaranteed neutrality in the race for the new leader.
Olldashi was careful to note that he is a Democratic Party Parliament Representative and member of this political group since its creation.
“I am competing with the desire to represent the militants and members of the Democratic Party, and because I am proud to have been part of the opposition that this party led from 1997 to 2005, and also part of the major achievements of this government from 2005 to now. I am competing with the determination to win the responsibility of leading 100.000 DP members and with the goal to rebuild the moral foundations on which we will build the opposition that tomorrow will turn into a majority”, Olldashi declared.
In his short declaration presented to the Democratic Party leader, Sali Berisha, Olldashi articulated the reason why he considers important the reconstruction of the moral foundations that will return the Democrats into a ruling majority.
“Because I believe that the electoral processes are not for bargains, and that most of the Albanians still believe in morals and ideas that will develop our country”, Olldashi declared.
Sokol Olldashi’s candidacy is the only one that was officially handed over to the Democratic Party. The other candidacy might be that of the Mayor of Tirana, Lulzim Basha, but no signal was given from his so far.
