The Court of First Instance in Mitrovica has sentenced the Serbian
Leader, Oliver Ivanovic, with nine years in prison for war crimes
against Albanians during and after the war in Kosovo. The other
defendants, Dragolub Delibashic, Alexander Lazovic and Nebojsha Vujacic
were found not guilty.
The sentence came after the evidence shown to support charges of ordering the killing of ethnic Albanians in Mitrovica on April 14th, 1999, during the NATO bombing when he was leader of a police paramilitary unit.
The Serbian police forces followed and killed ethnic Albanians, removed women and children from their homes and told them to go to Albania, while 15 Albanian males were separated and executed.
The trial against the Serbian politician at the Court of Northern Mitrovica was held under security measures due to tensions in that part of Kosovo.
