Old passport invalidated

The only ones who will be allowed to travel with the old passport will be the Albanians that are currently abroad. They will be allowed only to enter the country with that passport, but for returning to their emigration countries, they will need the new biometric passport.

“The citizens can enter Albania’s territory, but they will not be able to go out. All passports are invalid. This order has gone to the state police, which is tasked for the entire control. Points 9 and 10 task the Police State to execute this order, and allow the citizens only to enter the country, without the right to travel abroad with the old passports”, declared the interior  Minister, Ferdinand Poni.

According to him, 2.169.000 biometric passports have been withdrawn by the citizens by now, while 217.000 citizens have applied.

“15.000 passports each week can be produced very normally with this system, working for five days a week with normal working hours. We have produced even 30.000 passports per week, when we have doubled our efforts, but now we are not in these conditions any more. The system has four application offices at the consulates in Athens, Thessalonica , Rome and Milano. The Albanian citizens might not be able to take the passports there”, Poni declared.
