Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
The Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli, accused the only MP of the New
Democratic Spirit party, Gazmend Oketa, that his uncle was a Chairman
of the Commission in the Communist Prison, while he asked the Parliament
to respect the memory of the former political prisoner, Lirak Bejko,
who set himself on fire in protest against the government’s failure to
pay the compensation money, during a hunger strike in October 2012.
Topalli interrupted MP Oketa twice, while the NDS representative stayed for several minutes on the podium, waiting for a declaration.
Outside the Parliament Oketa declared for the media that his intention was to ask the MPs to respect the memory of Lirak Bejko, the Albanian citizen who took that fatal decision in a desperate moment, due to the communist persecution before and after the 90s.
“Mrs. Topalli stood to her declaration that she has no comment about the political prisoners and about their requests, and t hat she has no declaration when a citizen undertakes such an act”, Oketa declared.
As for the accusation of Topalli about his family member, the MP asked the majority to approve the law that opens the communist files, where we can see the past of the Prime Minister, the Parliament Speaker and other officials.
